Inspired by Chinese classics Zhuangzi 莊子 and Classic of Mountains and Seas 山海經 , this film tells the story of two gods attempting to give Dijiang the one thing he's missing - a face. Would this be the finishing touch to an elaborate canvas? Or simply giving a snake a wasted pair of feet?
The film took inspiration from the traditional Chinese animations of my childhood. It creates classic Asain influenced retro-futuristic style by combining hand-painted watercolor backgrounds with digital animated techniques. The sound design takes a similar approach by blending oriental instruments with electronic elements.
